Founded by the Amsterdam-born Siska Schippers in 1992, her jewellery journey began when working as a gold and silversmith.
Although both materials offer much flexibility and scope for creativity, Siska decided instead to focus on resin-based jewellery, gifts and home decor, perhaps due to its incredible potential for creative expression.
With Thailand representing a significant area of production for resin jewellery in the 1990s, Schipper took the plunge and emigrated to the country, moving her still-young operation across the world to facilitate a better understanding of the materials she was using.
Setting up a base of operations among the idyllic seaside vistas of Cha-Am, a town two hours South of Bangkok, Schipper employed fourteen women who would continue to work with Zsiska to this day.
Despite initial challenges in working with the resin material, the team went from strength to strength, and now Zsiska employs not just those fourteen women but their children and family members, too!
Although there were some hurdles in making the material work the way Schipper had envisioned, Zsiska has since enjoyed undeniable success using resin to hand-make their jewellery.
Working tirelessly with her team to manufacture resin that looks ‘as clear as glass’, the lightweight, durable material can be presented in various colour and shape interactions and plays well with other materials, such as gold and silver leaf.
While Zsiska has used tried-and-tested production methods for decades, its approach to design and trends is far from closed or insular.
Inspired by cutting-edge fashion trends, art, and nature, Zsiska works tirelessly to deliver two unique collections every year, meaning the brand’s devotees always have something to look forward to.
Undeniably, Zsiska makes jewellery with a magnetic presence. Guaranteed to stand out in any room the wearer enters. Their presence has drawn the attention of not only Brenda Muir but also fashion-forward celebrities, such as cookery broadcaster and writer, Dame Prue Leith.
Leith, a proponent of colourful, tactile statement jewellery, became so enamoured with the brand that she and Zsiska launched a signature collection together. Fittingly named ‘Prue’.
The collection spans 224 unique pieces across five collections, and is a testament to the adoration for bold and beautiful designs that she and Zsiska fervently share.
